The course, follows the National Keelboat curriculum, and uses the NQ Sailing – owned J24 fleet. So that personal guidance can be assured, numbers are limited and there is often a waiting list. These courses are available to Cairns Region residents only.

For those new sailors wishing to gain the further experience required to gain certification for Start Helming, Start Raciong, Spinnakers, VHF Radio or a Competent Crew ticket, the Clubs arrange more advanced courses with AYF-qualified instructors.

The cost currently is a Yachting Queensland affiliated membership at either Cairns Yacht Club or Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron. These are the clubs that are subsidizing use of the yachts. NB. This may vary in the future. In addition a maintenance fee is payable to NQ Sailing.

Three or four courses will be conducted yearly and to date all courses have been completely filled well ahead of the start date.
