Introductory courses in sailing keel boats are offered throughout the year depending on the demand and the availability of Australian Sailing qualified instructors from the Cairns Yacht Club.

The course, follows the National Keelboat curriculum. So that personal guidance can be assured, numbers are limited and there is often a waiting list.  These courses are available to Cairns Region residents only.

Over a number of sessions the AS Qualified Instructors supervise and guide applicants into the rudiments of safe sail boat operation. We aim to promote the sport of sailing by building confidence in the basic boat handling skills to becoming a competent crew experienced enough to take part in regular sailing events arranged by Cairns Yacht Club.

For those new sailors wishing to gain the further experience required to gain certification for Start Helming, Start Racing, Spinnakers, the Club arranges more advanced courses with Australian Sailing qualified instructors.

Eight to ten courses will be conducted yearly and to date all courses have been completely filled well ahead of the start date.  Course prices are $375 for a 2 day course.
