Learn to Crew & Learn to Helm Keelboat courses will recommence March 2021.
Start Crewing courses are running regularly at CYC.
Cairns Yacht Club are excited to be running these sailing courses under the guidance of Australian Sailing.
You will be instructed by our Australian Sailing qualified Instructors. The courses run over 2 days with 8 hours of instruction each day including in classroom and on board . With your Start Crewing certification you will be able to competently understand your role when crewing on a keelboat, including the basics of sailing, boat handling, safety and sailing theory. Once you have completed Start Crewing you can look at expanding your knowledge and experience by joining existing cruising and racing yachts here in Cairns and by taking further Discover Sailing courses with us.
The next Start Crewing course will be held on a date to be advised. The introductory price for each course is $375. This includes all materials, lessons, insurance, certification.

Tackers Friday Fun Days back after Easter.
Tackers sessions on Fridays 4-6pm are aimed at 7 -12 year olds. Families are welcome to join the fun.
A 10 week term cost is $170, speak to our organisers for more info on these sessions.

This program will run over 3 days and is designed to teach all the key skills required to sail a small sailing vessel safely.
On 17th January from 1-5pm the CYC will host a junior sailing sign on day at the clubhouse located at the Marlin Marina in Cairns
In 2020 the CYC will be conducting the following Junior Sailing programs:-
TACKERS program – aims at kids between 6 and 12 years of age to develop sailing skills and confidence on the water (Friday’s 4 to 6 pm during the school terms).
GREEN FLEET program – introduces junior sailors to racing skills and will be running fortnightly at dates to be determined.
OUT THERE SAILING is a program of social fun sailing designed for teenagers 12-17 years old, no experience on sailing boats is required – just a sense of fun – this program will run for 12 hours after school hours, dates to be advised.
The CYC invites all our 2019 Learn to Sail and Tackers graduates to bring a mate and come on down for the CYC sign on day – it’s free & family friendly!
The next dinghy course will start on Sat 31st Aug & run for 4 consecutive Saturdays from 8 am – 2:30 pm, The course fees are $240 per person, or contact the office on 40312750 to ask about a family discount for 3 or more. Our very happy Dinghy Fleet Captain, Dr Scott Davis, would like to express our appreciation, on behalf of all CYC members, to the Cairns Regional Council for their support & assistance in providing $8000 towards this project. The future of Junior Sailing is once again looking bright here at Cairns Yacht Club.
Please contact the office immediately to be included on this course which runs over 4 consecutive Saturdays from Aug 10th to 31st. Course fees are $240 per person or speak to us about a family discount for 3 or more people. The only prerequisite is that you be water confident and able to swim. Come and see why we love sailing so much!
With the popularity of the CYC Dinghy Learn to sail course on the increase we have decided to open registration for the course early. The course will be held on 18 – 20th January, 2021. Contact cyc@cairns.net.au to enrol.

Who should do this course?
This course is recommended to anyone wishing to learn to sail an off the beach sailing dinghy. Continue along the pathway to achieve your Better Sailing and Racing certificates.
We are looking for competent sailors over 18 years of age, with a boat licence, to become qualified Dinghy Instructors. You would need to pay for doing the Dinghy Instructors course, with a view to being offered a part-time job next year, to help run our school sailing program on Wednesday afternoons. We would also like to expand our after school, weekends & holidays programs. Please use the above link to enrol.
