Learn to Sail Dinghy Course 26-27 Feb
We will be running a course for juniors & adults on the weekend of 26-27 Feb, from 8:30am – 4:30pm both days at the Marlin Marina.
Cost is $125 for juniors & $250 for adults. All equipment is provided, however you need to bring your own stinger suit.

Learn to sail in 2023
Start Crewing courses are running regularly at CYC.
Cairns Yacht Club are excited to be running these sailing courses under the guidance of Australian Sailing.
You will be instructed by our Australian Sailing qualified Instructors. The courses run over 2 days with 8 hours of instruction each day including in classroom and on board . With your Start Crewing certification you will be able to competently understand your role when crewing on a keelboat, including the basics of sailing, boat handling, safety and sailing theory. Once you have completed Start Crewing you can look at expanding your knowledge and experience by joining existing cruising and racing yachts here in Cairns and by taking further Discover Sailing courses with us.
The next Start Crewing course will be held on a date to be advised. The introductory price for each course is $375. This includes all materials, lessons, insurance, certification.

Tackers sessions on Fridays 4-6pm are aimed at 7 -12 year olds. Families are welcome to join the fun.
A 10 week term cost is $170, speak to our organisers for more info on these sessions.
This program will run over 3 days and is designed to teach all the key skills required to sail a small sailing vessel safely.

The Tackers program for junior sailors kicks off again this Friday 10th July 2-6pm with a free event, then from 17th July for a 10 week Term 3 program For Tackers 1 & 2.

Yachts & multihulls will take part in a fun stern chase this Sunday 12th July, 12 noon briefing at the boatshed for a 12:30 start. Followed by our 112 year Anniversary Race on 19th July, briefing at 9 at the boatshed for a 9:30 start.
Sailability has some new boats arriving very soon, and are hoping to resume sailing activities in late August.
WAGS will be back on again from Wed 15th July. Wednesday Afternoon Go Sailing is a chance for visitors to join our local sailors for an afternoon out on Trinity Inlet. Meet at the boatshed at 12 noon.
Junior Sailing sign on day 17th January
On 17th January from 1-5pm the CYC will host a junior sailing sign on day at the clubhouse located at the Marlin Marina in Cairns
In 2020 the CYC will be conducting the following Junior Sailing programs:-
TACKERS program – aims at kids between 6 and 12 years of age to develop sailing skills and confidence on the water (Friday’s 4 to 6 pm during the school terms).
GREEN FLEET program – introduces junior sailors to racing skills and will be running fortnightly at dates to be determined.
OUT THERE SAILING is a program of social fun sailing designed for teenagers 12-17 years old, no experience on sailing boats is required – just a sense of fun – this program will run for 12 hours after school hours, dates to be advised.
The CYC invites all our 2019 Learn to Sail and Tackers graduates to bring a mate and come on down for the CYC sign on day – it’s free & family friendly!
Ellis Beach Regatta is on this weekend!
The end of year regatta is on at Ellis Beach this weekend, sing out if you can help out in any way. Please advise if you’re sailing/camping/staying for dinner on Saturday night. Kev needs to know numbers for catering.
Off the Beach Racing at Ellis Beach this Sunday 25th Aug
Make sure you get out to Ellis Beach this Sunday for off the beach racing. Book ahead if you need to hire a boat, by messaging Barry on 0428 369 303.

Learn to Sail Dinghy Course postponed to commence on Sat 31st Aug – 21st Sept
The next dinghy course will start on Sat 31st Aug & run for 4 consecutive Saturdays from 8 am – 2:30 pm, The course fees are $240 per person, or contact the office on 40312750 to ask about a family discount for 3 or more. New fleet of XSP Pacer dinghies has arrived at CYC recently.
Our very happy Dinghy Fleet Captain, Dr Scott Davis, would like to express our appreciation, on behalf of all CYC members, to the Cairns Regional Council for their support & assistance in providing $8000 towards this project. The future of Junior Sailing is once again looking bright here at Cairns Yacht Club.

Course fees are $240 per person or speak to us about a family discount for 3 or more people. The only prerequisite is that you be water confident and able to swim. Come and see why we love sailing so much!
